PETER KOOL

Warning: you don't know, but someone peeks at you...

What did you push to come close of street photography?

I discovered street photography at the academy in the eighties and I was very impressed by the work of, for example, Cartier-Bresson. Also the books The Family of Children and The Family of Man, two collections from various photographers, showed me the way.

Which are the adjectives that best describe your job and why?

Enjoyable and cranky, inspirational and empty; ups and downs which are typical if you are involved with creativity I think.

Coming home with not a single good photo after a five hour walk is unpleasant and only increases my MPP (miles per photo). On the other hand taking a nice shot makes me strap my shoes again with lots of intention.

Has your job been influenced by who or what?

Sunshine and another environment now and then influences the chemistry in my gray matter responsible for inspiration in this case. However some days goes better than others, for that reason I suspect some type of food also may have positive effects; it might be carrots.

Who would you suggest to follow on Instagram and why?

Well, ME of course; than there's the Magnum agency (@magnumphotos) and also the In-Public collective (@in_public_street_photo); two groups of great photographers where you can find lots of wonderful photos to enjoy.

BIO

Peter Kool was born 1953 in The Netherlands; living in Belgium since 1973.

Started to press the button in the eighties when he decided to take photography lessons at an academy of arts.

After a long silence of the shutters from somewhere in the nineties, he started to take pictures obsessively again around 2004 and the walking continues.
